Building Leaders of the Future

building-leaders-of-the-future-teravista-todayA familiar face to the 811 students that attend Teravista Elementary school (TVE), Kelly Gunn knew she wanted to be a teacher for as long as can remember. Now among the kindergarten staff at TVE since 2008, Kelly knows this is not only her job, but her calling. “I enjoy watching my kiddos grow not only academically but as a whole child learning to be kind, be empathetic and learn to love school,” says Kelly.
Kelly, her husband of 7 years and their adorable 4 year old twins and 2 year old girl have lived in Teravista since 2013. “Having children did not come easy for us,” Kelly acknowledges, “but with our faith in the Lord we knew He had a plan for us. We try to live a life with reflection and growth in Christ and absolutely love our church home, City View Bible Church.”

Once they made the move to Teravista in 2013, the Gunn family quickly fell in love with the community with its convenient pocket parks, fishing ponds to explore, friendly neighbors and kid friendly pools. Kelly’s parents settled in Round Rock in 1978 and she’s seen it grow from a small town to a bustling city full of growing families and new developments. Kelly also notes that our neighborhood if full of diverse families, cultures and traditions. “It’s fun to show my kids what a wonderful community we live in with such diversity but also so much kindness. The people here are so helpful and really do reach out to offer their assistance and friendship. We have made so many new friends here in such a short time.”

Looking back upon the last 4 years of living and working in the same neighborhood, the Gunns feel it was the best decision for their family and her teaching career. While Teravista Elementary  has seen it’s changes with staff and growth, it is still among the highest rated schools in Round Rock and because of that, Round Rock Independent School District has become a destination district. But with this growth, Kelly feels strongly that the school must have the support from the parents and fellow teachers that comprise of the TVE Parent Teacher Association (PTA). Kelly speaks for many of the staff at Teravista Elementary when she says “[the PTA] has provided and given so much back to our school with the amazing fundraisers and festivals they do. They really do care about the students and how to make each year even better and I feel honored to be a part of it!”
